In 1892 Stated by Mayor James Mott that: "…the town will bebuilt up by erecting suitable buildings for public use; providing schools, churches and other necessary adjuncts thereto; beautifying our streets with appropriate plants; stringing togetheron them attractive residences; making provision for proper sewerage…." After years of planning and construction beginning in 1893 – including groundbreaking ceremonies on February 13th – St Pete’s grand opening took place on November 14th, 1893 when more than 10,000 people turned out to celebrate!!! This marks not only the first time that an urban center had been created within limits defined by man but also the beginning of what would be known as “America’s First City”….and still going strong today!!!!
