Aurora, Colorado is a small city located in Weld County, Colorado. The population of Aurora was 508 at the 2010 census. It is the 8th most populous city in Colorado and the 2nd most populous city in Weld County. Aurora is part of the Denver-Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. The nearby Rocky Mountains can be seen from much of Aurora, including parts of downtown and Park Hill neighborhoods. The city was founded on July 24, 1855 by John Crippen and his brother Jameson as "Crippen's Station". In 1871, Washington County was formed from portions of Larimer and Arapaho counties; Aurora became a Town in 1872. In 1886, Denver amalgamated with Auroras town to form one municipality with a population of 710 residents. The City of Aurora annexed its neighboring municipalities (Larimer until 1912, Fort Collins until 1916) to form a new municipality with a population of 3,558 residents on December 1, 1928. In 1969, the City Council enacted an ordinance that established racial quotas for voting within Aurora; all black citizens were limited to 2/5ths representation on council while whites were limited to 3/5ths representation. This ordinance has been challenged numerous times unsuccessfully ever since it took effect without public input or protest by African American community members who felt they had been discriminated against by the City government. After years of legal struggle and community backlash against what they saw as an unconstitutional discrimination policy Mayor Richard Molnar repealed the quota law in 2003 following pressure from Mayor John Hickenlooper and other civic leaders who felt that repeal would violate state campaign finance laws which forbid cities from discriminating against candidates based on their race or political affiliation. On February 14th 2009 Mayor Hickenlooper announced he would not continue running for re-election after nearly 20 years in office because he believed Ward 6 should be made open to all citizens regardless of race or ethnicity; this decision generated significant public outcry throughout Aurora due to previous discriminatory policies still extant within municipal government notwithstanding mayoral proclamation). On January 25th 2019 voters passing Initiative 100 passed overwhelmingly into law making all wards open toAll Citizens regardless Race or Ethnicity! This monumental victory signals not only that people want change but also that we are coming together as one community willing to fight for our rights no matter how big or small those rights may seem

Aurora, Colorado is a city in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 621 at the 2010 census. Aurora was founded in 1876 as Belleview and changed its name to Aurora on February 14, 1887. The city is named after the Aurora Borealis, which can be seen from downtown during wintertime. The first post office in Aurora opened in 1879. The town of Belleview was platted in 1881 by residents of Belle Vista east of the current site of Aurora. The townsite had been surveyed by George Stephenson and James Hutton before they developed what is now Belleview Canyon north of the present-day City Limits Park area. In 1886, the first store opened in what is now downtown with a population of seven people. A telephone line was built between Belleview and Aurora in 1918 and it became possible for citizens to communicate with each other without having to leave their homes. In 1925, the City Council established an electric system that would allow businesses within limits to become self-sufficient with their own power supply rather than rely on local farmers who also supplied power for their homes and farms. This system remains one of Aurora's key attractions today! Belleview Canyon was designated as a Natural Landmark under Act 630 of 1976 which protects wildflower populations near Denver-Aurora International Airport from disturbance or destruction by development interests; this designation expired on July 1st 2009 ol replacement by Wilderness Area designation pursuant to 16 U.S., c ยง 3508(a). On October 3rd 1928 Elsie Warrender dedicated a plaque at Centennial Park honoring three women pioneers who had come west to make new beginnings: Alice Paul (1863-1939), Lula Jaffe (1889-1964) and Florence Kelley (1892-1967). These women were instrumental leaders during the early days when Aurorans traveled into miles wide areas outside our borders for coal mining jobs because transportation then consisted onlyof horseback riders or wagon trains carrying goods over long distances over rugged trails across vast open country
Aurora, Colorado was established in 1859 as a mining town. It grew rapidly due to its coal resources and became an important center of the Rocky Mountain region. Aurora was also one of the first towns in the United States to be founded on a model built around electricity.
